The Right Way to Take Bath According to Ayurveda
Bath according to Ayurveda is a therapeutic activity. Ancient Ayurvedic texts call bathing a method of meditation enhanced by mixtures such as sandalwood and milk, red sandal and milk, jasmine and amla, etc. You can use alum by placing it in your water tank if you suffer from constant sweating. Alum, which is also known as fitkari, is a natural disinfectant.
Therefore, an important part of the Ayurvedic routine is the morning bath. A soothing bath relaxes stressed muscles, unlocks clogged pores, restores tissue moisture, and adds a calming dimension to your day. It helps to recharge the mind and body, increase circulation, eliminate toxins so that they can be easily extracted from the body. It is enough to massage the scalp, forehead, temples, hands, and feet with sesame oil for about 3 minutes every day. - Use water at a low temperature in the areas of the head and face.
- For the area between the naval and the shoulders always use water at medium temperature.
- Use water at a high temperature for the area below the navel.
- It is best to use ubtan /uddavartanamto to remove all the pollutants from the skin. To make this you need to mix 1 part whole wheat, 1 part oat, ⅛ part turmeric, ½ part malai, ½ part coconut oil, aloe vera gel and rose water together. This mixture is left on for half an hour and then washed off using a wet washcloth by rubbing very gently. Ubtan has been used to get rid of excess hair since ancient times and to make the skin lighter and smoother.

Ayurveda mentions certain measures that should be taken when taking bath. One should not take a bath after eating for at least an hour. This practice prevents heat from being taken away from the digestive region where digestion requires it. Even, if you have acute diarrhoea, indigestion, vomiting, recurrent cold, fever, sinusitis, bronchitis, inflammation of the ear, eye, or throat, and acute gastrointestinal problems, you should stop showering.
